Change vs. Transformation

2022: New Year, New You

Are you ready to say goodbye to 2021? If the answer is yes, you’re not alone. These last two years have been filled with so many ups and downs that it feels like we’ve been on a non-stop rollercoaster ride. 

The new year brings hope. We hope that we’ll experience more peace, more love, and more health. We hope that we will have the opportunity to both rest and serve. We hope that this year—finally—will be the year that we emerge from our tight-fitting cocoon as a bright butterfly taking flight. 

All this is possible. 

It is important to remember that change and transformation are different. They can appear the same but if a caterpillar simply climbs up a tree, it will still be a caterpillar when it gets to the top. Transforming into a different and lighter being requires that we let go and surrender to the inherent wisdom that is trying to carry us forward.

Transformation—true transformation—is not for the faint at heart but is reserved for those of us who seek to emerge as the highest version of ourselves.

If you desire to evolve into your highest self in 2022, here are a few key principles of nature that promise to carry you forward:

  1. Listen deeply. To yourself. You have very specific instructions deep inside of you that are DESIGNED to carry you forward. Messages like, “Stay away from that person,” or “Cut back on the wine…” whisper in the depths of your being patiently waiting to be heard. 
  1. Protect your energy. There’s a reason that caterpillars don’t socially book every moment of the day while in a cocoon, it takes energy to transform! Evaluate everything you do and ask yourself, “Is this feeding my soul or simply keeping me busy?” If it’s the latter, then you know you’re avoiding a piece of your own transformation.
  1. Detach from the outcome. Okay, this is a tough one. When you begin to listen to yourself and honor the voice of life inside you, EVERYTHING that no longer serves you begins to unravel. Don’t be surprised if a childhood friendship or a 20-year career starts to come apart at the seams. It’s okay. If you have already been going through this, as many have, then know that some of the hard stuff is behind you and your only job is to return to step one and keep the process going.
  1. Give yourself all the grace you would give your infant child. You are doing your best. Every single time you look in the mirror and don’t like what you see, or feel yourself submerged in waves of intense emotion, BE THERE FOR YOURSELF with presence and kindness. Nothing in this world can transform without a healthy attachment, your healthy attachment is you. Be nice.

It’s time. Your DNA knows how to shed, evolve and emerge as a new you, over and over again. After the start of the year, spring is coming. Your second spring—A chance at new life.

New: Transitions Group

Almost everyone I know is in transition right now. Something is changing… The truth is that as the world changes, we are changing too. Transformation can be difficult to navigate. It can bring up anxiety, obsessive thinking, denial, and escapism.

I’ve been dealing with escapism all summer. It’s like I want to crawl out of my skin, so I go to Denver, cut my hair, visit my sister up north, etc. But each time I return from my internal or external adventure I’m left with the same feeling: uncertainty mixed with a little discomfort.

When we change, our environments need to change to reflect who we are at our essence. Sometimes this happens organically but often we need to step up and show up differently–as our new selves and not our old selves.

This act of courage and integrity is what energetically informs others and our environment that it’s time for an upgrade on all fronts.

Four Qualities of Flow

Most of us know flow as the state of optimum performance. But what is the mechanism behind flow and why is it so intoxicating?

According to the Constructal Law of physics, flow is the fundamental design of nature responsible for the evolution and optimization of all life. It makes sense then that we seek the experience of flow above all else. Flow is the state where we feel most aligned and alive. 

At The Flow Lab, we are committed to helping employees move toward greater wellbeing and increased performance by cultivating the following four qualities of flow:

Presence

Presence allows us to receive the energy that fuels our life. The most brilliant artists and athletes begin their craft with a moment of presence. It is here that we harness the energy and clarity needed to move forward in an intentional way. 

Integrity

When we view flow from a physics perspective, integrity becomes more of a structural aspect of flow than an abstract moral concept. A river without borders has no structural integrity. A tree without a trunk cannot grow. Practicing integrity—doing what we know to be right—becomes the foundation for our growth and the structure of our character.

Transformation

At a point we are called to expand ourselves and our capacity for flow–to move toward greater mastery. We don’t transform our lives through manipulation or force, rather we engage in consistent practice and persistence to elevate our skill level and increase our ability to make a positive impact.

Mastery

For even the most accomplished, the journey toward mastery never ends. Aligning with our nature means that we demonstrate our current level of mastery in every aspect of life. We do our best and, in doing so, receive feedback from our environment about how to do better. Consistently moving toward mastery is how we stay connected to our purpose.  

This is the flow cycle. As we practice presence and integrity, we are presented with opportunities for growth, when we say yes to those opportunities, we expand and move toward greater mastery and purpose.

The Law of Seasons

Have you noticed that everything is changing?

In episode 22 of the High Vibrational Life podcast, I explore the law of seasons and what happens when we ignore the seasons in our own life. It’s tempting to hold on to what’s familiar and comfortable but sometimes we are called to move on and if we ignore the signs and internal tug to make a change, we erode on the inside.

The question becomes, when do you cut off a branch in order to save the tree? Sometimes we need to cut off a branch of our lives in order to save ourselves.

Untangling from Toxic Relationships

Have you begun to view your relationships in a new light? As we evolve, we want people to grow with us but that’s not always possible. So, how do we untangle from the dynamics that keep threatening to pull us back into old patterns?

In episode 20 of the High Vibrational Life podcast, I explore how to reclaim your energy from dynamics that are no longer uplifting, freeing the relationship to either transform or fall away. We can remain connected in love but power struggles and manipulation do not align with an aspirational life.

Because we care, untangling from difficult relationships can be challenging but offer rich opportunities for expansion as we move toward our highest life.

The Secret to a High Vibrational Life

What is a high vibrational life? It is the ability to be so present that your attention becomes the landscape through which energy flows. This is the way every aspect of nature works and we are no different.

The challenge arises when our energy is fragmented, distracted and stuck in emotional whirlpools–all signs of modern living. In episode 19 of my High Vibrational Life podcast, we explore what it takes to be the most authentically powerful version of ourselves. Listen to the episode here.

2020 Vibrational Summary

It’s no accident that 2020 is associated with perfect vision. The glaring light of this year has exposed the underbelly of three major areas of life: health, power and our relationships. Like it or not, 2020 has revealed all for us to see.

With awareness comes opportunity. For those who were and are ready, this has been a time of reckoning and reconciliation. It’s been a time to evaluate and make changes where change is necessary.

Brain/Body Reset, Episode 15

The second law of thermodynamics states that any system put into isolation will increase its entropy (chaos). This is what happens when we hyper-focus on the thinking brain or neocortex. It’s so important to take brain breaks. Slow down your brain waves so your body can reset itself. Episode 15 of High Vibrational Life is a short meditation designed to reduce stress and bring the mind and body back into harmony.

The Energy of Desire

This is a frustrating time…

While I hope this finds you well, this pandemic has many of us on an emotional rollercoaster. Our desires are still alive and well but how do we bring them to fruition in a world that’s frozen in time?

The truth is there has never been a better time to activate your desires. But we live in a new world and the rules of the game have changed.

We are being called to create our lives in real time. In the old world, when life moved much slower, it worked to set a goal and slowly work toward it. Today’s world doesn’t give us the luxury of time so we must create what we want right now.

How do you do that? Let’s look to modern physics for the answer. We exist in a sea of waves that collapse into particles to become matter. To activate your desire in the present, simply let go of your idea of what your desire will look like (the particle) and focus on the feeling it will generate within you (the wave).

If you want health, take actions today that will bring more health into your body and relish in the feeling of your cells coming alive from a nutritious smoothie or a good workout.

If you want love. Love yourself. Love the tree at the end of your street. Love the people who are currently in your life. Bring your desires to life right now and in time, the outcome will delight and surprise you. Bottom line: We can’t control form (particles) but we can create waves.
